You will need:

(Makes 4 bowls)

1 ½ lbs of venison sausage

1 cup of grits

3 cups of water

1 cup of milk

1 stick of butter

¼ lb of cheddar cheese

1 dozen cherry tomatoes

4 or more Eggs

Optional Toppings:

Salsa

Sour Cream

Chives or Green Onions

Your Favorite Hot Sauce

The first step you need to do is brown the sausage of your choice (we used venison) in a pan. While the sausage is cooking, bring 3 cups of water and 1 cup of milk to a low boil in a saucepan. We use a med-high heat to avoid scalding the milk so watch your temperature, you don't want it too hot.

Once boiling add your grits and let simmer, cook for the designated cooking time. Whether you are using quick grits or your favorite brand, cook accordingly, ours take 15-20 min or until thickened.

While the meat and grits are cooking, shred your cheese and slice your tomatoes in half.

The final cooking step is to cook your eggs. This recipe works well with either scrambled or fried eggs, whatever your preference is. We typically fry the eggs and put them right on top.

When the grits are finished cooking, season to taste and begin assembling your Grit Bowl.

There is no wrong answer! Enjoy and let us know what you think!
